Hurricane Matthew left over a thousand dead and tens of thousands displaced in Haiti. ShelterBox is responding and is working to provide emergency shelter as well as other lifesaving supplies to storm ravaged communities. How can you help?

ShelterBoxes, ShelterKits and other lifesaving items arrived in Haiti on Wednesday (pictured above). The ShelterBox Response Team in Haiti is working with partners in the country including Rotary International and other organizations like the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

It is estimated that 1.4 million people are in need of assistance and 90% of homes in the most affected areas have been damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Matthew. As assessments are underway, the team has reported back of the possibility of providing tents to be used in a variety of ways to help get vital services up and running, including temporary schools, cholera screening centers and child-friendly play areas.

In addition to storm-resistant tents and kits to make damaged buildings weatherproof, ShelterBox is also suppling water filtration and mosquito nets to combat disease, and solar lighting where power is down. Further updates will be made as the ShelterBox response evolves in the days and weeks ahead.
